From Piedmont to Lombardy

Day 1.
Langhe-Roero and Monferrato. A Cultural Landscape

Here lies the excellence of the Italian eno-gastronomic culture. Here was born the Slow Food Movement. A long standing farming know-how combining innovation and sustainable agriculture shaped the landscape of the hills of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato. A land starred with town and tiny villages, home to famous writers like Fenoglio and Pavese, scene of the Italian Resistance against the Nazi-fascism. A discovering tour with your personal guide-storyteller among cellars, cheese makers, chocolate shops, romanesque heritage, rural buildings. Accomondation at your hotel, or agriturismo.

Day 2.
Saced Mountains - Varese

"Sacred Mountains of Piedmont and Lombardy” consist of 9 separate complexes located in the mountains of Northern Italy. The building of Sacri Monti began bewteen 15th and 16th centuries to create an alternative to the Holy Land pilgramage. They represent a successful integration of architecture and fine art into a landscape of great beauty. In this itinerary we suggest a guided visit to the Chapels trail of Sacro Monte in Varese: a wide cobbled and easy path, 2 km long with 14 chapels among landscape, art and history until the village of S. Maria del Monte, 883 m. If you don't want hike a funicular will easily bring you on the top. Pause for a cheese tasting up to the hills. Accomodation and dinner in the surrounding of Varese.

Day 3.
Crespi d'Adda

From Varese you will reach the area of Adda, the most spectacular Italian river, whose landscape inspired Leonardo da Vinci who had been living here for several years: his paintings and his studies. The celtic origin of Adda means “current water” that combined with the heigth differences made this river fascinating and perfect for exploitation by hydroelectric power plant at the very beginning of Italian industrialization. Water and energy are the keywords for Crespi d'Adda, a beautiful, almos ideal, workers village founded by the enlightened industrialist Cristoforo Benigno Crespi in 1877. Guided tour of the village and surroundings. At the end transfer to your hotel in Milan

Day 4.
A Last Supper in Milano

Full day visit of the city among its square, romanesque heritage, canals and entrance to S. Maria delle Grazie and Cenacolo Vinciano. The complex, including the Church and Convent, was built from 1463 by Guiniforte Solari and was considerably modified at the end of 15th century by Bramante, one of the masters of the Renaissance. Here in the refectory, on the north wal, is The Last Supper, the masterpiece painted between 1495 and 1497 by Leonardo da Vinci.

Day 5.
Free visit, free shopping

After breakfast you will take your time to wander in the heart fo the city among Duomo, La Scala, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and the fashion streets in Brera district.
